Hello again,

Well I'm sure you're all sitting on pins and needles wondering if we ever got our wheels!  LOL.  Yes, we did!  It was a miracle.  Kim and Debbie came through with, quite literally, a truck load of stuff (and we have a BIG truck)!!  Brent and Susan (Kim and Brent are brothers) had already ordered tons of stuff and then we come along with a request for four wheels!  Kim says he enjoys the challenge and we certainly are grateful that he does!!  Thanks again!

Now, why are we still here?  Mike and his root canal have been infected but we think that this second round of antibiotics is doing the trick.  He sees the dentist again on Wednesday and maybe can get a temporary at that time.  Depending on how long it will take to get the permanent crown made, we may leave and come back here in a month or two or just wait for it.  We are getting a little antsy to get back on the road but we are having a terrific time here.  It's just that we have so many more places we want to visit and only a limited amount of time.  Our insurance and tourist cards expire on May 6th and we have to be out of Mexico by then.

Meanwhile, we're having fun.  Our one BIG concern is our dear friend Susan.  She has been in the hospital in Guadalahara for almost a week.  Her appendix burst and she's been very sick.  It's a long scary story and we wait every day to hear how she is doing.  Brent calls Kim and someone gets the word to us.  She's infected but getting wonderful care and we're hoping that she fights off the bad stuff very soon.  She was sick for a few days before seeking medical care so this has been going on for well over a week.  Meanwhile, Debbie and Kim are staying at Brent and Susan's place and missing them, as we all are.

Now back to the fun we're having........some of which is shown in the photos attached.  John and Lori who are staying here at the RV park and already knew Kim and Debbie from last year (we all know Brent and Susan long time) and Mike and I have been doing fun stuff.  We spent one afternoon and evening up at a place called Majahua Palms which is about 25 miles north of here.  First you drive to a little village of Troncones on the coast and then head north up a dirt road (with 40 topes) thru another tiny village (Majahua) and another mile or so to this amazing resort.  Friends of Kim and Debbie manage the resort (they all live in Euphrata WA) and they were staying for a couple nights and we drove up with John and Lori.  The place is big with sweeping lawns and a wonderful beach.  It's quite a surprise to see such splendor so far out in the middle of nowhere!  They had entertainment for the evening and we really had a great time.  We actually didn't get back home until after midnight which is certainly a first for us.  And driving on the Mexican roads after dark was a first as well.  Best of all was spending time with our wonderful new friends and I'm including Mike and Lauri who manage the Majahua Palms!  Google it!

The birdie in the first photo sits on the fence out our door and tweets very loudly!  I have no idea what he is but he's a noisy little guy.  I just heard him a minute ago.  The next photos are at Majahua Palms.  I had to throw in a picture of our new wheels!  Aren't they nice?  Hope they're strong!!  The biker guy is Don and his father-in-law is the owner of this place.  Don lives in Idaho and comes her with his wife and German Shepard (the one who was ill but is ok now).  He's a good guy with a large motor coach.  He offered to take extra wheels, or whatever, up north for us and we took him up on his offer.  We actually offloaded our skis, boots, and poles.  We have way more room now.  We'll pick the stuff up when we're passing thru Sandpoint in the fall.  Dave (Aspnes, not you Scott) check out his shirt -we bought you one just like it.  I'm not going to tell you what it says but it was made for YOU.

There's a couple shots of Zihuatanejo Bay taken from way up the hill.  Isn't it georgous? On the way up the hill I met a spider - scared me to death but he's kinda pretty.

The closeup beach is Playa La Ropa which is very nearby where we live for now.  We walk there for sunsets and just beach time.....very nice.  There are crocodiles that live there and we understand that they have been seen in the surf at night so we know they're crossing from their lagoon to the ocean.  I do not want to see that.  We did see a snake on one of our walks.  He was skinny like a twig but probably four feet long.  He moved really weird....icky.

It's been Carnival here and the six of us went downtown to see the parade.  It was hard to photograph but I hope some of the video came out ok.  The street scene was before the parade and that shot came out better than the ones I took of the parade itself......oh well......we had a good time.  That little girl trying to charm Kim into buying is looking pretty familiar.  I'm sure I have other shots of her.  She's pretty cute.

It's been really warm here.  In the afternoons it's pretty HOT.  We take a swim in the pool at least once a day.  We eat out way more than we ever do at home.  Shopping is always an adventure.  I have a lot of mosquito bites.  We've both read a number of books.  We're getting pretty lazy but all is well.

Adios for now.......

Gayle (and Mike who is actually awake and just took a four mile walk and is reading)

Hello again,

It's been a while since I got one of these off to you all.  I don't really remember what I last said.  Should have looked at it!  Oh well.

We're in Zihuatanejo still, which was sorta planned and it is wonderful here.  We thought we'd stay only a couple weeks at first but it's turned into at least a month by now.  The reasons are numerous but as of this minute we're waiting for new wheels for our truck and Mike starts a root canal/crown process tomorrow so we aren't going anywhere right away.

We're staying at Villas Los Arcos which is right near Playa Ropa in Zihuatanejo.  Love area, lovely place.  Joyce came down for two weeks soon after our arrival.  She had to go back home yesterday.  She was able to stay here at the Villa on the top floor which had no walls, just planter boxes, and a palapa roof.  Very cool.  We all trecked up those three flights many many times to enjoy sunsets or play card games.

Unfortunately, for the first five or so days after Joyce arrived, we were on a wheel search and it took a lot of our time and was stressful.  We'd already had the one cracked wheel and were running on the spare when we had the second flat......and it turned out to be a second cracked wheel.  Can't run on three wheels!  And our's are a rather large and unusual size.  Since the camper was offloaded here in our little spot, we were able to run around in the truck looking for a place to order wheels.  All the while, checking the air level of the tire and getting more air when needed.

Long, long story short......the place that said they could get wheels for us and we went to every day could not.  So we finally decided to just order them ourselves and hope that the shipping would actually be possible.  In thery, it is possible but when we went to our friends, Brent and Susan's condo, to ask if we could use their phone number and address for shipping they said there was another solution.  Brent's brother is coming down on Feb. 5th and he "wouldn't mind", in fact "would be glad to" bring the wheels!  I can't wait to meet this guy.  Who in the world would be happy to do such a thing?  And, believe me, the horror stores about actually taking delivery on items sent UPS etc. from the States are enough to make us very grateful that we didn't have to go there.

Anyway, the wheels will be a comin' on Alaska Airlines along with new credit cards for us.  When I tried to use our credit card to charge the wheels I learned that our credit card had been put on some nasty list and they had sent us new ones.  Well, since all our mail is being forwarded from our Hawaii address to Kristin we knew they would be returned.....so we were able to have new cards sent to Kim and the world will keep on turning.  How lucky are we?  Mike and Brent will go in the truck to haul the load they're bringing in and we'll then be able to leave.......after the crown for Mike is done.  Love it here.....no worries.......

We've had an unusual amount of rain this year.  In fact, any rain is unusual in Mexico this time of year.  A few days after Joyce arrived a bunch of us went to an art show and to dinner in town.  During the meal it started to rain.  Then it started to pour.  Then the wind started to blow.  Then the wind started to HOWL.  It was ugly.  We already had our meals so were able to finish dinner before the power went out.  And it was out all over the area.  The streets were flowing with water and even sewage...not cool.  Anyway, we got back here and found that our bed wasn't TOO too soaked (the hatch was open) and our awning didn't break from the wind or the water.  However, poor Joyce goes up into her room and it's a muddy mess.  The whole place was wet and filthy.  Her walls are only waist high and were filled with dirt and flowering plants.  Big mess!  Oh well......just another experience.......things got put back together and at least the side of the bed she was sleeping on was fairly dry!!

We've been mostly just hanging out.....going to the beach......enjoying the lovely pool here at the Villa.........eating at home and in restaurants.  I'm going to write more about some of that later today when I send another batch of photos I've got ready to go.

Right now I'm ready to just go sit by the pool and read my book!

More later......

Adios,

Gayle (and Mike who is already at the pool!)
