More Alaska 2011 #4

 Subject: G & M Travels 2011 #4 June

Ok – back to Alaska! Here we are in our “car” heading to town or something! There is a road to the Flotel now but it’s much faster to take a boat to town. We did drive a couple places too. The trail photos and the totems are in a native village called Kassan (hope I spelled it right). The totems are very old and are somewhat deteriorated but s ll very beautiful. The fifteen minute walk through the forest is beautiful. The guy who works at the liquor store came by one evening with a couple nice king salmon....and he gave one to Jim and Jeannie. We got to share in eating some of the best salmon we’ve ever tasted! Thank you, Jim....great job! Another day trip took us to Caufman Cove (and I probably didn’t spell that right either). The loop drive took us along the eastern shore of Prince of Wales Island and to a wonderful restaurant where they had the very best Reuben sandwiches on the planet. Along the way, there was a hole in the road that someone had placed a toilet seat over. Pretty funny. We took a walk through the forest to a waterfall (Hatchery Creek?) that had some of the best-looking skunk cabbage I’ve ever seen. I must have taken fifty photos of skunk cabbage. The leaves were so green it being spring and all! I’m easily amused. That evening we made our way back to Thorn Bay and went to a pig roast at the school. Yum! The building shown is the liquor store. The last photo is of Mike, Joyce and Jeannie at our cabin the morning we love . What a fun trip. Thanks to the McFarland’s and to Joyce.......thanks, thanks, thanks.
