Favorite Kauai Beaches 2025

This is not a blast from the past, it's from last week.  We went to our two favorite beaches and I took hundreds of pictures of the waves and scenery.  I can watch ocean waves for hours, they are mesmerizing.

Mahaluapu is probably our most favorite.  It's on private land owned by Steve Case and the road has been closed since 2020.  We heard it was reopened and had been grated (it can be horrible with potholes and big puddles) and it was the best we've ever seen it.  And what a lovely day.

It had been five years since we've been able to go there.  It's the place that we both want our ashes tossed when ashes is what we've been reduced to.  Here's some photos....

We have extremely colorful chickens here on Kauai.  Thousands of them, running wild all over the place.

Mahaluapu has rocks that are fairly soft and the shoreline keeps changing.  There are caves and small blowholes are formed and can startle you when you walk by and hear a very loud whoooosh right next to where you are standing.

Here's some video of the place as well.   We plan to visit again soon before the road gets bad again.

The very next day we went to Polihale Beach.  It's part of the longest beach in Hawaii and is where the NaPali Coast, famous for it's fabulous sea cliffs, begins.  Or ends, depending on your point of view.

It's not a swimming beach because of strong currents.  We've actually seen people get in trouble and have to be rescued.  It's located at the very end of the public road and the last five miles that you must drive to get there is an absolute horrible mess.  Potholes everywhere, but worth it.

It's actually a State Park and it seems odd that they don't have a somewhat decent road.  That's Hawaii for you.

Anyway, some more photos and a video.  Hope you like looking at waves as much as I do.

This beach is located adjacent to the Pacific Missile Range at Barking Sands.  If you're lucky they may send off one of those Star Wars babies while you're enjoying the view.  We have seen it happen.

Back to the past is where I'm heading next.  It's fun to read those old posts and try to remember all we've done.   That is really the reason I did them....for myself to enjoy when I'm old.  I guess that time has come.

Aloha for now, Gayle
