Colorado

 Hi Again,

You sick to death of me yet?  Too bad cause there's lots more to come.  LOL.

Okay, we are in Colorado.  Nice place....beautiful.  We'll be here for another few days before we take a detour over to eastern Utah and then we'll be back to Colorado for a couple more weeks....more or less.

Our first stop in Colorado was to visit Pagosa Springs and to see old friends of mine, Sam and Ralph.  It had been years and years since I've seen them and Mike had never had the pleasure.  They live just outside town in a beautiful rural area with mountain views and wonderful pets!  Sam plays golf and Ralph flies small planes and they are wonderful people and were so gracious to us.....thanks you two.  For those of you who knew my Chalchi kitty....well, they have two abyssinians, Dolly and Elliot.  And one more kitty that's shy and then here's Jake....he's a GREAT DANE.  A truly GREAT doggie.  We enjoyed them all.

We then made our way to Mesa Verde National Park.  Mesa Verde is very near the "four corners" area which is very scenic.  The national park is high up on a mesa overlooking surrounding valleys.  There are numerous ruins of cliff dwellings which are amazing.  We spent several days in the park and drove the roads and enjoyed the sights.  An amazing place.

We had already driven through Durango on our way to Mesa Verde but in our quest to "see it all" we drove back to Durango so we could drive the road north to Silverton (and beyond).  We're in Silverton tonight and plan to drive The Million Dollar Hiway tomorrow.  We went over passes today that were almost 11,000 feet but the one tomorrow is just over that height.  We're pumped.  It should be gorgeous.  The weather is grand though it's a bit chilly at these altitudes.

Silverton is over 9,000 feet and sitting among towering mountain peaks on all sides.  It's a cute little town.  We had a beer at one of the local bars that claims that Wyatt Earp used to work there (at least on the site if not in the building).  The bartender told us to go to the Bite of Silverton which was going on one street over from the main drag.  Yummy.  So much for dinner in the camper...we got enough "bites" to keep us happy for the evening.

So Mike is watching TV and I'm using all kinds of electricity charging cameras and phones and toothbrushes....we enjoy the luxuries when we can.  We'll be visiting four National Parks this month so stay tuned........ Aloha, Gayle and Mike
