2011 Trip over, finally home in Kauai

G and M Travels 2011 #17

Aloha from Kauai, We’re home. Got here last Thursday and have been busy beavers getting the place cleaned up. There were WAY more bugs than usual. Dead, thankfully. Most of them, anyway. We’re in pretty good shape now and today we are actually going to the beach for the first time. The weather has been a little iffy but I think today will be ok.

The only casualties we had were the smoke detector upstairs and the Jeep battery. Not bad. In the past we’ve lost major appliances. We spent the last couple weeks mostly near Krysten's place.

On the way we stopped at Northwest Trek and saw some of the animals that we didn’t see camping. All good. Don’t want to see cougars and bears camping!

We went to one of Bryce’s baseball games. His team is doing well and the next week he even hit a homerun! Way to go Bryce! We also got to know Beau, Rachel’s boyfriend. He is very cool and they are having a lot of fun together. We even met his Mom, Colleen, and hope to see them all again next me! Rachel does have good taste. Rachel and Beau went to the Homecoming dance a few days ago. They looked so GOOD. Beau gave Bryce his old bike and it’s pretty neat.

Everyone is doing ok though there are rough patches for sure...Kris n and Mitch are divorcing. Rachel has put modeling on hold until things settle down. She wants to stay close with her brother. I love them all so much.

My sister Barbara is going to be a grandmother soon. We all went to the baby shower for Kim, who is due in less than a month. So many cute little boy gifts. Barbara is super excited to have another little boy to play in the mud with. I’m happy for her. Grandchildren are a joy for sure.

We did go up north to Anacortes and to Everett for a few days. We HAD to meet Maddie, Dave and Eddylee’s new puppy. They drove all the way to the east coast to pick her up. They even bought a motor home to do so! She is a darling and they are very happy to have a puppy once again. Plus, it’s always super fun to get together with the Scott’s.

Next, we went to see Dave and Janet. Mike, of course, had projects and Dave has tools! We all got up early and went out salmon fishing on Dave’s little power boat (he also has a sailboat, of course). It was fun to be out on the water in front of Everett . It had been years and years since I’d done that. The weather was not great but at least it didn’t rain until after we got back. We did get skunked, however. Oh well! Dave and Janet had already caught forty-one salmon this year.

Dave was kind enough to give us some smoked salmon and some crab. We managed to get it here, still frozen, and will enjoy! I also have my sea cucumbers from Alaska. I know that everyone is excited to try those!!!

Janet got a new kitty. Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of the one she chose a beautiful snowshoe part Siamese female with big blue eyes. These two kitties are the first one’s she looked at when we visited the shelter. Wonder if she’s going back for Diesel, the dark colored one?! Dave and Janet are not coming this year for Christmas, and they will be missed.

We managed to get everything done on both the truck and the camper so that when we return it will be totally ready to go! It’s even clean, at least on the inside! Not fun trying to put it away in the pouring down rain but it got done somehow. We covered it (Mike did, I should say) and I’m not sure if we’re keeping the rainwater in or if we’re keeping it out! The night before we left Washington we went to our favorite, Vince’s, for pizza. Joyce, my Mom and Pete joined us for dinner. Rachel and Beau came by later to say goodbye. It was very fun. Pete is an old family friend and he and my Mom really had fun kidding one another. My Mom drove us to the airport in the morning and now we’re enjoying being home. The trip was good but there’s no place like home.

Mike is out weed whacking, and I just bought a new camera online. The one that took all these photos is going back to Costco tomorrow. Can’t stand having only a screen to view while taking photos. I tried but I’m going back to the camera I had before except a newer model. It’s bigger but I think I’ll be happier. They are all Panasonic Lumix, which I love.

So that’s all for now........Adios, Gayle and Mike

The photos that went with this email were lost somehow....mostly family which will show up many times in the future.
