Hello everyone,
Hope you had a fun Christmas and we wish you a Happy New Year.
We’re in Benson, Arizona at an RV park that has an observatory.....hope we can see some stars or planets and that the weather stays not too cloudy. It ‘s way nicer down here than anywhere else we’ve been for sure. Just drove down from Tucson today.
Since we last checked in we really haven’t done much but visit family and friends which is always a good thing. We were at Leah and Jay’s just before Christmas and we stayed an entire week. It was fun hanging out with them for longer than usual. Jay is an awesome cook so we ate really well. Anessa is now 16 so she’s really grown up and fun to talk with. Leah is just a dear and it was really fun to spend the Christmas holiday at their home. Mike’s stepson, (Leah’s brother Oliver) and his wife and young son, Owen, came over a day or two before Christmas so Mike got to see even more of his family than we had bargained for. They live near Los Angeles. Jay cooked up a big pile of ribs and brats and we stuffed ourselves.
We had our truck worked on while we were there and she’s ready to go...almost. The guy who worked on big rig is a friend of Jay’s and he is a super guy. We’re grateful we were sent to him as he really checked everything out and did a bang up job for us. I also got worked on by Leah’s chiropractor who I liked very much and though he tried to help I’m still not having an easy time walking without a ton of pain. Grrrrr.
We left Jay and Leah’s for Lake Havasu where it rained....again. It almost snowed the last place so I guess that’s an improvement. Finally saw the London Bridge but wasn’t able to get a decent photo. Weird that it’s there.
From there we went to Mesa, Arizona, and parked next to our friends John and Lori’s big big rig for a couple nights. It was New Year’s Eve and I must admit we didn’t make it up that long. Scary to be so old. They have a new puppy, Kailani, and she was a pistol. Their cat, Chop Chop, didn’t like the pup and it was fun to watch their antics. John and Lori we met in Mexico in 2010 the first time we went down there. They live in Oregon but are pretty much traveling full time the last couple years. They play a ton of tennis and enjoy hanging out in Mesa during the winter months. It’s a nice area......though I wish they were coming to Mexico with us.
So that brings us to Tucson where we really enjoy staying at Catalina State Park. My sister, Barbara, and husband Tyler just moved to Tucson a few months ago and we also have friends from Anacortes that have a second home (or is a first home?) in the area as well. We spend a night at Barb’s place and saw their new home, had a nice visit and ate at a really good Mexican restaurant. We spent a couple nights at Dave and EddyLee’s in their casita and had a wonderful visit with these two special people and their puppy Joey. She and the cat just looked at each other through glass while Aja hissed and swatted to poor Joey. We stayed another few nights at Catalina State Park where Barb and Tyler came for a visit and yesterday they came and picked us up and took us for a drive up Mt. Lemmon. It was beautiful and there was even a bit of snow at the top of the mountain drive where there is a little baby ski area. Nice to spend time with my sister.
Today we drove here after spending the day getting one more repair on our truck (replace the second alternator as suggested by our wonderful mechanic in Apple Valley and an oil change) and did the Costco thing one more time. We signed up and paid for our Mexican Insurance and are trying to take care of a zillion little things before jumping off into Mexico. We plan to cross the border on Friday.....the 13th of course.
First we’re going to spend one more night here and then drive to Green Valley and visit our friends Tom and Cathy who used to live next door to us in Hawaii. We last saw them three years ago when we last visited Mexico. They have plans to visit Kauai in a few months, which was their home for a very long time. Unfortunately we won’t be there but at least we get to see them here for a couple days. The 12th is our 13th anniversary and Cathy’s birthday is on Saturday so we’ll have much to celebrate. Looking forward to it.
So that’s what’s happening.....not too much to report but we have certainly had a great time seeing so many people that we enjoy and love. On to Mexico and hopefully a relaxing enjoyable time. I’m still suffering from a pinched nerve and have been to numerous medical venues to cure the problem but it looks like I’m just going too have to live with it for a while. Better to do that in Mexico where it’s warm and drugs are over the counter...lol.
We’ll be in touch. Happy New Year to everyone.
Love, Mike and Gayle and don’t forget Aja.....she’s been a great little traveler.
