Hola Amigos,
I'm getting way behind on these emails. Shame on me. When I last wrote we were still in Mazatlan and did stay for a few more days. Had to watch Superbowl, right? And we had a good beach day where we enjoyed lunch with our feet in the sand watching the fun all around us.
Our next stop was Teacapan which is nothing but a huge long beach with not much going on. There is a big lagoon a little further up the road from where we stayed that we enjoyed last time but this time we just parked on this huge beach and watched sunsets for a few days. And ate at home for a change. Aja got to run around a bit as there was no place she could really get away to without us seeing her.
Then we had the long drive to the area north of Puerta Vallarta. We never made it to P. V. proper but there are a number of small towns to the north that we wanted to visit. The first was Lo de Marcos. This is a sleepy little town with a beautiful mile long beach and lots of RV parks. We chose a good one that had nice people and a jungle setting within steps to the beach and a good palapa restaurant. We enjoyed many a cold Pacifico and a few meals at this handy location as well as walked to town for supplies and to look around. We stayed here for six nights before heading up the road about ten miles to La Penita de Jaltembra.
There is an RV park called Little Rig that I've always heard about and wanted to visit. They had an opening that we had reserved and we were not disappointed that we had made this stop a priority. There is only room for seven "little" rigs and we had the spot second from the beach. The people who own this place are Canadians, Carole and Brian, from near Victoria and they are delightful people. Their home is just lovely and there's a sweet little swimming pool, a tiny palapa for sunsets and the town is about a five minute walk on the beach away. Very nice little town as well. We felt that this was the most enjoyable place we've ever camped in Mexico....well....except for Zihuatanejo which we adore. We spent a week and the last full day we took a taxi to Chacala and returned by bus.
Chacala was a favorite anchorage back when I was cruising in the late 90's. It's grown up quite a bit since those days but it's still lovely. There is now a paved road and hotels, etc. And the next, what used to be a secluded, beach up called Chacalia that we used to walk to is now private and you can't even go there. We also discovered that there is good camping there currently. Last time we checked, eight years ago, there wasn't so this was a pleasant finding. You can dry camp right on the beach for $150 pesos a day. That's seven or eight bucks. We didn't have time to do it right then but if we come back this way we'll certainly stay for a few days at this most beautiful of beaches.
While in Penita Carole did a special thing for me. She realized that I was suffering quite a lot with this sciatia or whatever is wrong and she gave me two massage appointments of her's with Salvadore. He's very much in demand and I would not have been able to get in to see him otherwise. He was beyond amazing.....he does massage but much much more, including acupunture and chiropractic. He really worked me over those two times and I'm better. At his suggestion I made appointments for five massages four or five days apart in Zihuatanajo and I'm thinking I'll be way better after that. In fact yesterday I walked a lot and didn't have much pain or need to sit down ever hundred steps or so. So there's hope.....we'll see how today goes. We're going to be in Zihua tomorrow and my appointments start on Thursday. Wish me luck. By the way, five massages in Zihua will cost me $100 total. Deal of the century.
OK....I've got two more locations that we've visited on our way from the P.V. area to Zihuatanejo and both are fabulous...so I better get busy.
Aloha Adios for now.
Gayle and Mike
